Vegas Play of the Day: Harvard at Arizona State

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Harvard at Arizona State, Over 127: $550 to win $500 : Arizona State averages 74.9 points per game to rank 53rd nationally. They have scored more than 70 points in 10 of 12 games, including 93 in their most recent contest.

Assuming Arizona State scores at least 70 again, Harvard would only need to account for 58 points, or nine less than its season scoring average of about 65 points per game, to cover the over.

Harvard is the unknown.

It made just one first-half field goal last Sunday against Virginia in an eight-point half, scoring 27 points for the game. Also, they were 9 of 22 from the foul line.

But what the numbers don’t indicate is how Harvard players were rusty after returning to the court after a lengthy layoff for midterm exams — those are tough at Harvard, after all. The defending Ivy League champs should be much improved today with a week of practices under its belt.
