Vegas Play of the Day: San Diego State at Wyoming

UNLV vs. Wyoming - Feb. 8, 2014

Sam Morris / Las Vegas Sun

UNLV forward Roscoe Smith is defended by Wyoming forward Larry Nance Jr. as he drives to the basket during their game Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV won 48-46.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

San Diego State at Wyoming, Total under 118: $440 to win $400

Wyoming is one of the slowest teams in the country, as I can personally attest after watching Saturday’s 96-point barnburner at the Thomas & Mack Center, and San Diego State’s offense is miles behind its stellar defense. This is such a low number so I won’t be surprised if I get burned by it, but by the numbers the under is the only way to go.

The Cowboys are getting four points and I was thinking about going that way. This isn’t an easy trip for any team in the Mountain West and Wyoming only has two league losses by more than four points, and both of those were five-point defeats. But in the end I’m more confident that very little will happen than in which team will do slightly more than the other.

If San Diego State does end up winning it will be one step closer to a perfect league record. As I see it there are only three major tests remaining: This game, at New Mexico on Feb. 22 and here at the Mack on March 5. Other than those three games, it’s going to take and abnormally off night for SDSU to fall.

Standings: Bern (8-4, $10,690), Brewer (4-6-2, $8,820), Keefer (4-7, $8,517.50)
