Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point..
Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Southern Miss minus-4 at Alabama-Birmingham: $550 to win $500 Alabama-Birmingham enters on a three-game losing streak, including losing at home to East Carolina when it was a nine-point favorite.
UAB is more than capable, beating North Carolina on the road earlier this season and losing at New Mexico in double-overtime.
During Conference USA player, however, UAB has struggled with a 3-6 record.
The same East Carolina team UAB lost by seven points against, Southern Miss easily handled by 14 points. And that game was at East Carolina
Southern Miss is the league’s top team and on the verge of entering the top 25. At 21-3 overall, the Eagles need to keep winning with hopes of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Conference USA is a one-bid league, but Southern Miss has played its way into the at-large bid conversation. They need to continue winning — and winning by large numbers — to build their resume.
I’m confident that scenario will play out today.
Standings: Bern (9-5, $10,750), Brewer (4-6-2, $8,820), Keefer (4-7, $8,517.50)
