Vegas Play of the Day: Boise State at New Mexico

UNLV vs. New Mexico

New Mexico’s Cameron Bairstow scores under the basket in front of UNLV’s Roscoe Smith in the first half of an NCAA college basketball game on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in Albuquerque.

It’s been nearly two weeks since any of us saw $10,000, the fictional bankroll we all started with for the Sun’s Vegas Play of the Day. A victory today would push me back over that margin and that’s exactly what I intend to do.

Let’s stick with Mountain West basketball since that worked well on Saturday.

Boise State plus-5.5 at New Mexico: $330 to win $300

I don’t like this game nearly as much as San Diego State over UNLV, so I’m betting less, but I do see value in the underdog here. For one, the Broncos have mostly done well in that role, at least by betting standards.

As about six-point dogs against Iowa State and San Diego State, Boise State kept it close. And that’s all I’m asking for tonight at the Pit.

New Mexico and Boise State are both talented but flawed squads, and on a neutral court I would make the game a pick. That’s the main reason I’m going with the Broncos. I think they’re getting a couple points too many and I’ll take the value.
