Team USA Basketball Begins Practice

Kevin Durant passes over his head during the USA Olympic basketball team practice Friday, July 6, 2012 at UNLV’s Mendenhall Center.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.

Oklahoma City Thunder minus-5 at Brooklyn Nets: $330 to win $300

The concern in this game is that Oklahoma City may be due for a letdown, not only because it’s on a nine-game winning streak but especially coming off that huge win at Miami on Wednesday. That’s the type of game that set up even a good team like the Thunder for a little setback.

The reason I’m going against that is that Kevin Durant, aka the Slim Reaper, is in another world offensively right now and with eight wins against the spread during this streak, I want to ride the hot hand. The Nets are 10-2 in their last 12 and that could be enough to make sure Oklahoma City doesn’t look past them. And since the Thunder have to turn around and play again tomorrow at Washington, this may actually be the better night to go with them.

Standings: Brewer (3-4-1, $9,530), Bern (3-4, $9,290), Keefer (2-7, $8,017.50)
