Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Miami Heat plus-4 at San Antonio Spurs: $440 to win $400
Until the only thing that anyone could talk about in Game 1 happened, my Heat plus-4.5 pick was in good shape. Of course, LeBron James’ cramping and the Spurs’ lights-out shooting in the fourth quarter changed all that.
Assuming the air conditioning actually works at the AT&T Center today, I feel about the same for this one as I did the opener. In fact, I might even like the Heat a little more, as they did a good job of getting out in transition, controlling the glass (for awhile) and contesting outside shots.
About midway through the fourth quarter, all of that fell apart, as James had to eventually be carried off the court and Miami forgot that defense was still required.
There’s been too much time off in between games, but the plus side of that is there shouldn’t be any ill effects from Game 1 on the players. Both sides should come out ready to go with similar game plans, and just like the first time around, I like a close game.
