Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Miami Marlins (-105) vs. Chicago Cubs: $525 to win $500 : The Marlins are one of baseball’s best teams at home, owning a 23-13 record at Marlins Stadium to put them in strong contention in the National League East. Every game at home is a must-win, especially when it comes against a beatable opponent such as the Cubs.
The Cubs are one of baseball’s worst teams and have just a 13-25 record on the road. Although Cubs starter Jason Hammel has been solid this season with a 2.89 earned run average, he’s by no means a sure thing. That’s especially true considering Chicago struggles offensively — it ranks 28th in baseball in runs and 29th in batting average.
Bottom line: I'll take Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton any day of the week against the Cubs, regardless of who is pitching.
Standings: Bern (32-23-1, $12,079), Keefer (25-31, $8,074), Brewer (18-27-3, $4,450)
