Vegas Play of the Day: Milwaukee at New Orleans

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point..

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Milwaukee at New Orleans, Total Over 202: $440 to win $400 : I wouldn’t complain if you decided to wager against me — after all, I’m down nearly $4,000 and have just five wins in the three months of our contest. No excuses.

But the numbers definitely favor this game going over the points total. Eight of the last nine Milwaukee games have gone over, including six straight. And three days ago when New Orleans defeated the Lakers in Los Angeles, the two combined to score 257 points.

It’s late in the season and both these teams are loaded with fringe NBA players trying to find a job for next season. Often, games wind up with uncharacteristically high point totals, similar to high-scoring D-League games. It’s all offense and no defense.

Milwaukee is 20th in the NBA in points allowed at more than 100 per game. New Orleans is 19th in points allowed, also surrendering more than 100 points per game.

All signs point to the over. And, yes, I have been wrong before.
