Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
St. Louis Cardinals (-120) at Atlanta Braves, $600 to win $500 : This is a great value bet in going with Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright, who is one of the top pitchers in the National League. He should enjoy another solid outing against the wildly inconsistent Atlanta Braves, which have struggled all season scoring runs.
Wainwright was the first pitcher this season to reach five wins, had a scoreless innings streak of nearly 30 innings snapped last week and has an earned run average of 2.16. He has 46 strikeouts and 13 walks in 50 innings.
Atlanta is pitching Mike Minor, who is also has a quality arm. However, this is just Minor’s second start after opening the season on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Minor gave up two runs in seven innings last week in his belated start to the season. Let’s see if he can be good in consecutive outings.
Standings: Bern (21-16-1, $10,600), Keefer (19-24, $8,098), Brewer (16-20-3, $7,095)
