Vegas Play of the Day: Astros at Angels

Pujols 499

Los Angeles Angels Albert Pujols, right, is congratulated by teammate Mike Trout, left, after hitting a three-run homer off Washington Nationals starting pitcher Taylor Jordan during the first inning of a baseball game in Washington, Tuesday, April 22, 2014. It was Pujols 499th home run of his career. Later in the game, Pujols added his 500th-career home run.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Los Angeles Angels (+110) minus-1-5 vs. Houston Astros, $500 to win $550 The Angels’ Garrett Richards is one of baseball’s best young pitchers, pitching a five-hitter over seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in his most recent outing against Philadelphia. For the season, he sports a 2.42 earned run average and a 4-0 record.

Houston ranks 27th in batting average and runs scored, meaning Richards should continue his hot start to the season. However, be warned: Los Angeles might have a hard time scoring against Houston starter Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel has won his past two starts, including pitching a complete game shutout in his most recent outing to beat Texas.

Still, I’ll take Richards over Keuchel. And I’ll take Angels sluggers Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, too.

Standings: Bern (25-17-1, $11,650), Keefer (21-25, $8,153), Brewer (18-23-3, $6,490)
