Vegas Play of the Day: Monday Night Football

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Philadelphia Eagles minus-7 against Carolina Panthers: $330 to win $300

I like this game better at minus-6 ½, which is what I have in our Sun handicapping contest, but I’ll still side with the Eagles at a full 7. It’s certainly not the most confident pick — we are talking about Mark Sanchez at quarterback, after all — but it’s definitely the side I’d rather be on.

I’m actually hoping the Eagles defense can pitch in and help overcome whatever mistakes Sanchez makes in his first start since 2012. Over his last three games, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been sacked 10 times and given away five turnovers (three interceptions, two lost fumbles). I’m betting more on that trend to continue than for Sanchez to come out and dominate.
