Vegas Play of the Day: Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Kansas City Royals at Los Angeles Angels over 8 runs: $440 to win $400

There will be some great, low-scoring pitching matchups in this year’s playoffs. Tonight’s Game 1 between the Royals and Angels in the American League Division Series just isn’t going to be one of them.

I doubt the Royals will be able to muster the same magic as Tuesday night to pull off the victory, but they’ll score a couple of times. Problem is, that’s not going to be nearly enough as the Angels are about to tee off on Kansas City starter Jason Vargas, who has allowed at least four earned runs in five of his last six starts.

While the Royals boarded a plane bound west while still buzzed following their thrilling 12-inning victory against the Oakland Athletics, the Angels have been posted up at home ready for this game. It might get ugly, but it will assuredly feature a lot of runs.
