Vegas Play of the Day: Arkansas at Texas Tech

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Arkansas minus-1 at Texas Tech — $770 to win $700 : Texas Tech needed a fourth-quarter rally last week as a 21-point betting favorite against lowly UTEP to avoid being upset. Two weeks ago, as a 33-point favorite, Texas Tech surrendered 35 points and won by just seven points against Central Arkansas.

Today, the competition gets significantly better.

Arkansas isn’t a world beater by any means, but the Razorbacks scored 73 points last week — albeit against Nicolls State — and have good players at each position. In the season opener, Arkansas gave Auburn a valiant fight early, before No. 6 Auburn pulled away in the second half.

The game, though, was tied at halftime and Arkansas nearly rushed for 200 yards. Texas Tech’s run defense yielded 277 yards last week to UTEP. Imagine how many yards Arkansas’ ground game will produce?
