Vegas Play of the Day: Royals and Indians

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Cleveland Indians minus-130 vs. Kansas City Royals: $650 to win $500 Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer has surrendered just two runs in 19 innings pitched this season. He’s given up no home runs and struck out 26 batters in 19 innings. Most important, the Indians have won in all three of his starts, which accounts for half of their six wins in a 6-12 season.

Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie has struggled in April, sporting a 5.50 earned run average and walking six batters in five innings of his most recent start. He’s struck out just seven batters in 18 innings, meaning Cleveland is going to put the ball in play.

The defending American League champion Royals have a 13-6 record in the first month of the season and have shown last season’s playoff run wasn’t a fluke. But Guthrie is their weak link. He’ll get hit hard against the Tribe.

Standings: Keefer (77-74-2, $11,057), Bern (75-67-1, $10,562), Brewer (68-80-3, $3,245)
