Vegas Play of the Day: Cleveland Indians and Oakland A’s

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Oakland Athletics plus-105 vs. Cleveland Indians: $320 to win $336

The A’s look like a bet-on team for the rest of the season. Giving a team with the worst record in the American League that distinction may sound strange.

But there’s a big difference between having the worst record and actually being one of the worst teams. Several American League rivals are less formidable than Oakland.

Cleveland is one of them. The A’s have outscored the Indians by nearly 70 runs on the season.

A miserable 10-25 record in one-run games is almost solely to blame for derailing the A’s season. That’s the definition of bad luck in baseball, and I expect they’ll improve the mark at least marginally by the end of the season.

Taking an unjustified plus-105 home underdog worked yesterday in starting to help pull me out of the gutter of the Play of the Day. This one looks just as encouraging.
