Vegas Play of the Day: Reds at Padres

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

San Diego Padres vs. Cincinnati Reds, Total Over 7 at plus-110: $400 to win $440:: The San Diego Padres have failed miserably to meet lofty expectations this season. They brought in Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and James Shields and were supposed to be a contender in the National League West. But, entering tonight’s game with the Reds, the Padres are 9.5 games out of first place and have lost in Shields' last four starts. He should get hit hard again, simply playing out the season in the first year of a three-year contract.

After the Padres and Reds combined to score 17 runs last night, it’s worth betting the total over in this afternoon’s contest. Totals often go under in San Diego, but that can be partially credited to the cold weather in evening contests. It will be hot this afternoon and the ball will be flying off the bat.

While Cincinnati’s season has also been disappointing, the Reds seem to always find ways to score. Todd Frazier is one of the best offensive third baseman in baseball and Joey Votto seems to always find his way on base.

I will keep my fingers crossed that scoring seven runs isn’t asking too much.
