Vegas Play of the Day: Chicago Cubs at San Francisco Giants

Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant runs the bases after hitting a game-winning, two-run home run against the Colorado Rockies during the ninth inning Monday, July 27, 2015, in Chicago. The Cubs won 9-8.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Chicago Cubs plus-104 at San Francisco Giants: $225 to win $234

Why, oh why did I schedule myself for a Play of the Day when there’s no preseason football? I feel comfortable wagering on any football at this point, but betting on baseball has been the bat that’s swung through my bankroll all summer.

So, I guess in a desperate attempt to get any win on the diamond, I’m going to practically not even attempt to handicap today. No, this wager is a straight value play — no matter how miniscule the aforementioned value may be.

The Cubs have a lower price — ranging from minus-102 to minus-110 — at every other sports book in town except for the South Point. Give me the plus-price where it’s still available.

This is the hottest team in baseball, right? Chicago has won six straight games, including an 8-5 victory in the series opener against San Francisco last night.

I’ve often heard not to bet against streaks in baseball. I’m skeptical of everything I know about betting baseball after the experience over the last few months.

Restore my faith ever so slightly, Cubs.
