San Diego State fans greet UNLV players before their game Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at Viejas Arena in San Diego. The 10th ranked SDSU won the game 63-52.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

San Diego State plus-7 vs. Kansas: $770 to win $700

The Jayhawks might be the best team in the country, and I’d make them the favorite for the national championship. That said, I think this is going to be an ugly 4- or 5-point victory in Kansas’ first true road game of the season.

San Diego State has the nation’s top 2-point percentage defense, and there’s a strong correlation between how well a team guards the interior and how they are likely to do on the perimeter. Kansas’ 3-point shooting is exceptional this season, but another great 2-point defense, Michigan State, was able to hold them down earlier this season in Chicago.

Even great teams like this year’s Kansas squad have to adjust to playing in what’s traditionally a good, challenging road environment. I think that challenge is going to be enough to keep this one inside the number.
