Vegas Play of the Day: Hawaii Bowl

UNLV loses to San Diego State

L.E. Baskow

UNLV’s Matt Lea (23) and Ryan McAleenan (56) help break up a pass intended for San Diego State’s Donnel Pumphrey (19) during their game at Sam Boyd Stadium on Friday, November 21, 2015.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

San Diego State vs. Cincinnati over 56.5 points: $440 to win $400

I hinted at this in the bowl picks column, but let’s go all the way and wager on both of these offenses. This is the lowest point total for Cincinnati since week 2, when it eclipsed over/under 55.5 in a 34-26 loss to Temple.

San Diego State, after relying on its defense all season, is the team dragging the total down. But the Aztecs’ offense has become more explosive since getting healthier in the second half of the season.

They’ve gone over in four of their last six games after opening the season with unders in five of seven contests. Oddsmakers haven’t adjusted far enough for the rate they’re scoring points.

Cincinnati quarterback Hayden Moore should have his way with a defense that hasn’t seen a passing offense this efficient since surrendering 35 points to California in week 2. The question is whether the Bearcats can stop the Aztecs seeing as they give up a horrendous 5.8 yards per rushing attempt.

The weather will be beautiful in Hawaii as normal, putting all the elements in place for a shootout.
