Vegas Play of the Day: Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons

The Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point and $10,000 starting bankrolls, broke out of a funk yesterday.

The pressure is on to build an evasive winning streak.

Detroit Pistons plus-6.5 vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: $330 to win $300

It’s time to start looking for spots to go against the Cavaliers. Cleveland has turned into the team everyone thought it would be when LeBron James announced his return with a 16-2 straight-up, 14-4 against-the-spread run, but its acclaim among bettors has gone over the top.

The Cavaliers don’t deserve to be the lone favorite to win the NBA Championship the way they suddenly are in sports books across Las Vegas. They’re not trustworthy enough to load up on bets every night — an increasingly common strategy for casino patrons — either.

Despite the tear, they’re still three games below .500 against the spread for the season. This game is priced as if Detroit is one of the NBA’s afterthoughts.

The Pistons are better than that. In the same span of the Cavaliers’ run, they are a respectable 9-8 straight up and 11-6 against the spread.

They’re currently one game out of the playoffs and determined to get there. New acquisition Reggie Jackson could help to get there as seen in the second half of his debut when he hit seven of 10 shots to finish with 17 points in a 106-89 victory over the Wizards.

It was the Pistons’ second straight win. Despite being a plus-250 (risking $1 to win $2.50) underdog, they might make it three tonight.

Standings: Bern (67-61-1, $10,106), Keefer (65-65-2, $9,957), Brewer (60-69-3, $4,615)
