Vegas Play of Day: Virginia at Wake Forest

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Wake Forest plus-8 vs. Virginia: $550 to win $500 Virginia hasn’t been the same team since standout Justin Anderson was lost to injury earlier in the month, and needed to rally two weeks ago at home for a 61-60 victory against Wake Forest.

While Wake Forest has just a 12-15 record in coach Danny Manning’s initial season, the Demon Deacons have lost more than their share of close games. That shows they are still fighting and improving. They’ll be determined tonight to avenge the loss to Virginia and to grab a signature victory against the ACC’s best team.

Virginia struggles to score and ranks 210th nationally at 65 points per game. It has scored just 51 points in two of the past four games, clearly unable to find someone to replace Anderson’s production.

Wake Forest led at halftime of the first meeting and should have won the game. Tonight, they are getting eight points — winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Standings: Bern (67-61-1, $10,106), Keefer (65-66-2, $9,627), Brewer (60-69-3, $4,615)
