Vegas Play of the Day: Oklahoma at Kansas

Kansas beats UNLV: Jan. 4

Orlin Wagner / AP

Kansas forwards Cliff Alexander (2) and Jamari Traylor (31) celebrate during a timeout in the second half of an NCAA college basketball game against UNLV in Lawrence, Kan., on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015. Kansas defeated UNLV 76-61.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Oklahoma at Kansas over-139 points: $550 to win $500

The Jayhawks are coming from a tough game at Iowa State that they really didn’t deserve to be close to winning, while the Sooners are coming off giving a whooping to in-state Oklahoma State. That made me lean toward Kansas to cover, maybe easily, the minus-5 at home, but instead I’m going with a more confident play in the total.

The Sooners are on a recent trend of scoring higher than they are known for, and in the last three meetings between these teams, the game has gone over. I think tonight the Jayhawks will do more of the dictating, which should lend itself to a few more points, but mostly I think we’ll see a lot of up-and-down action as Oklahoma tries to rally.

Hopefully the game opens up like that. If not, former UNLV coach Lon Kruger will grind this thing and the Allen Fieldhouse crowd into the ground.
