Vegas Play of the Day: Georgia Tech at Miami

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Miami minus-9 vs Georgia Tech: $550 to win $500 : Georgia Tech enters on a seven-game losing streak, including scoring just 28 points Jan. 22 against Virginia and 45 points earlier in the month against Syracuse. Yes, 28 points in a college basketball game.

Georgia Tech is 265th nationally in points per game and 264th in assists per game. The Yellow Jackets struggle with guard play and have no plan of attack offensively. That’s a formula for a blowout loss against a quality Miami team, especially when considering the starting guards for Miami.

Miami’s backcourt of Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez combines to average 30 points per game and will be impossible for Georgia Tech to contain. McClellan shoots 51 percent from the field. Miami enters with a 14-5 record, including winning on the road at No. 8 Florida. It barely lost Jan. 17 at nationally ranked Notre Dame. They’ll roll to an easy win tonight.
