We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Miami Marlins plus-115 at Chicago Cubs: $280 to win $322

Chicago starter Clayton Richard hasn’t pitched in the majors in two years. There’s no telling what the Cubs what will get out of him, so laying any price with the favorite is out of the question.

Miami doesn’t have any huge advantage as it counters with Jarred Cosart, who will start for the first time since May coming off of an injury. Both teams’ offenses are average at best, so on a day where there’s not much that stands out on the betting board, grabbing the plus-price feels like the right move.

Miami has won four in a row and five of six despite action coming in against them virtually every game. The betting market isn’t high on the Marlins, but they’re getting by just fine without injured slugger Giancarlo Staton so far.

I’ll hope they stay on that course for another day.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (1-0, $10,600) Keefer (0-1, $9,740), Bern (0-0, $10,000)
