Vegas Play of the Day: New York Yankees at Texas Rangers

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Texas Rangers plus-105 vs. New York Yankees: $300 to win $315

This is a straight fade of New York starter Chris Capuano. The 36-year-old has made three starts this season and gotten shelled in each of them.

There’s a reason the Yankees haven’t sent him to the mound since May. But because they’re playing 10 days in a row on the road, they felt it necessary to use an extra arm so the rest of the rotation can rest.

It seems like a mistake, even though the Rangers haven’t instilled much confidence recently. They’ve lost two straight and turn to a pitcher who’s only making his third start since returning from Tommy John surgery to break the slump.

Martin Perez has surrendered three earned runs in each of his first two appearances, though he insisted he felt back to normal in last week’s start against the Rockies. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and take his word for it.

Perez should at least be able to outduel Capuano and put the Rangers in a position to win.
