Vegas Play of the Day: Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies

Goldschmidt hurt

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Paul Goldschmidt, left, shows first base coach Dave McKay where he was hit by a pitch during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Phoenix. The Pirates defeated the Diamondbacks 9-4.

Baseball has terrorized the South Point-lined Play of the Day.

Trouble on the bases has pulled down each of our $10,000 starting bankrolls, but there’s nowhere else to go during the summer.

Arizona Diamondbacks minus-115 at Colorado Rockies: $230 to win $200

Arizona starter Chase Anderson has been one of the best pitchers in the league over the last week. He’s led his team to a pair of victories and no-hit the San Francisco Giants for more than six innings.

It would probably be foolish to think Anderson can sustain the tear. But luckily, he has a more-than-manageable task tonight.

Anderson just needs to outduel Kyle Kendrick, who will never have “one of the best pitchers in the league” mentioned next to his name. Kendrick’s numbers are meager, even by Coors Field standards.

He’s posted an ERA of nearly 7 at home and has a 1-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Diamondbacks’ offense has performed great all year, so they’re going to score their share of runs tonight.

All Anderson needs to avoid is an implosion. That should be easy enough.

Standings: Bern (84-73-1, $11,405), Keefer (82-84-2, $8,672), Brewer (71-89-3, -$815)
