Vegas Play of the Day: Arizona Diamondbacks at San Diego Padres

Drawing team names out of a hat is a better betting strategy than following my baseball picks on the South Point-lined Play of the Day.

My starting $10,000 bankroll has dropped constantly as a torturous consequence of baseball season.

Arizona Diamondbacks plus-120 at San Diego Padres: $300 to win $360

San Diego starter Andrew Cashner and Arizona starter Jeremy Hellickson are headed in opposite directions, and jumping on streaks can often be a profitable approach in baseball.

Cashner is on one of the worst stretches of his career, looking lost on the mound with no signs of turning it around. Hellickson, meanwhile, has kept his command under control for more than a month.

The Diamondbacks will give him run support considering they’ve arguably been the best hitting team in the National League. It’s more difficult to trust the Padres on-again, off-again hitting pattern.

Arizona has outscored San Diego by six runs in 12 meetings this season, though the teams are an even 6-6 against each other. The Diamondbacks should pull ahead tonight.

Standings: Bern (84-73-1, $11,405), Keefer (82-86-2, $8,042), Brewer (72-89-3, -$15)
