Vegas Play of the Day: Minnesota Vikings at Denver Broncos

NFL Games Sept. 13

A Denver Broncos fan watches during the first half of an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, in Denver.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using odds from the South Point.

Minnesota Vikings plus-7 at Denver Broncos: $660 to win $600

If I’m going down in the Play of the Day — and all evidence points that way with a horrendous last few months since we restarted — then I’m going down swinging. It’s time to gamble with bigger bets to either crawl back into this competition or bottom out of it.

This line doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. It feels like there are a couple points of value on the Vikings based solely on Peyton Manning’s reputation and the Broncos’ 3-0 start.

Neither of those factors is reason enough for Minnesota to get a full touchdown. This is far from a classic Manning offense with the 39-year-old laboring to throw as the Broncos offense rates dead last in the NFL at 4.3 yards per play.

Denver is also the most fortunate 3-0 team in the league given narrow escapes against Kansas City and Baltimore the first two weeks. Minnesota is the best team Denver has faced, especially on defense where coach Mike Zimmer will make use of considerable talent to test Manning.

A couple years ago, doubting Manning’s ability to negotiate likewise schemes was a surefire way to lose money. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.

This is going to be a low-scoring game, so the points become the play.
