Vegas Play of the Day: Texas A&M at LSU

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Texas A&M plus-1.5 at LSU: $550 to win $500

My competitor in this space but overall sports colleague Ray Brewer would chalk up my rough year in Play of the Day to being too analytical. He often teases me about needing to go with feel with more often.

Well Brewer, let’s give it a whirl. The one thing that initially attracted me to this bet is the one thing I try not to overly rely on when risking my own money — visual observation.

I’ve happened to watch both of these teams a number of times this season, and came away feeling the Aggies are significantly better. Oh, the Tigers probably have more talent but their play too often comes off as erratic and lacking direction.

They can’t shoot, and run constant isolations. And not always to the right person.

It’s hard to say a player accounting for 28 percent of their possessions — ugh, a slip back into the numbers anyway — doesn’t get the ball enough, but sometimes it seems the Tigers forget to run their offense through Ben Simmons in high-leverage situations.

LSU can’t shoot and doesn’t pass particularly well, either. Those are both strengths of Texas A&M, which is also an infinitely better defensive team.

My eyes say to ignore Texas A&M’s stretch of three straight losses, because it will get it together in a favorable matchup this morning. If this goes horribly wrong, I’ll blame it all on Brewer.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (33-31, $9,280), Bern (24-32, $6,575), Keefer (31-41-2, $6,002)
