Vegas Play of the Day: Minnesota at Dallas in the NBA

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Dallas Mavericks minus-6 vs. Minnesota Timberwolves, $440 to win $500: I always bet against NBA teams playing in consecutive days, especially when that team is on the road. In addition to the travel, the Minnesota players are still recovering from a 112-110 finish Saturday against New Orleans. That's a tough task, especially late in the season, to bounce back from.

Dallas is 2-0 this season against Minnesota with victories by eight and 12 points. Minnesota has just a 9-20 record away from home, and is 24th in the league in points allowed at 104.7.

In handicapping the NBA, half of the battle is determining which team will show up ready to play and which team is simply going through the motions. In an 82-game schedule, it’s rare to find a team that’s on its game every night. Friday, Dallas trailed Denver by 23 points, but rallied to win in overtime. That’s shows they still have some fight. I can't say the same for a Minnesota team playing in back-to-back night.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (37-32, $10,720), Bern (25-33, $5,995), Keefer (33-43-2, $5,922)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (105-107-1), Keefer (117-125-4), Brewer (106-119-2)
