Fans cheer as Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) reacts after scoring in a game May 13, 2015, in Oakland, Calif.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Portland Trail Blazers plus-11 vs. Golden State Warriors, $440 to win $400: Yes, Golden State is the defending NBA champion. And, yes, the Warriors are in the middle of one of the league’s best all-time seasons with a 33-2 record. But the “Splash Brothers” of Stephen Curry and Clay Thompson will receive a stiff challenge tonight from Portland’s Damian Lillard.

Lillard is one of the league’s most underappreciated players, averaging 24.2 points and 6.8 assists per game. He’ll be up to the challenge tonight to prove he’s on the same level as Curry and Thompson. Plus, Curry has been hobbled with a left-shin contusion and was questionable to play.

Bottom line, this game means more to Portland than Golden State. For Golden State, it’s another game on the schedule en route to the playoffs and a championship defense. For the Trail Blazers, who enter with a losing record, this is their playoffs. In an 82-game NBA season, part of the challenge in handicapping is determining which team will bring its best effort. Tonight, that will be Portland.
