Vegas Play of the Day: Miami Marlins at New York Mets

We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Miami Marlins plus-146 at New York Mets: $350 to win $511

I don’t get the obsession with the Mets. They get bet in a lopsided fashion in almost every game as if they're an All-Star team, despite having not rewarded the public’s devotion over the season as a whole.

Despite their winning record, the Mets have not been a profitable bet on the year. A hypothetical gambler who wagered $100 on them every game would be down nearly $400.

This seems like a strange time to take this stand with New York riding a five-game winning streak where its bats have exploded. But it’s actually the perfect time.

The Mets aren’t going to stay this potent on offense forever. The outbreak has knocked their lines out of whack, and it’s time to take advantage.

The Marlins are also in wild card contention and only 2.5 games behind the Mets. They’ve also hit Mets starter Steven Matz hard in two prior meetings.

Miami should even the series today.

Current Standings: Keefer (2-0, $10,750), Bern (0-0, $10,000), Brewer (0-2, $8,930)
