Vegas Play of the Day: Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Edmonton Eskimos

We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Edmonton Eskimos minus-5 vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats: $330 to win $300

I’m no Canadian Football League expert, but dabbling in it has paid dividends in Play of the Day so there’s no reason to stop. Edmonton has played well this season, yet bettors have nothing to show for it.

The Eskimos went into overtime and failed to over in each of their first two games before pushing as a 4-point favorite at Winnipeg last weekend. It was an anomaly that they didn’t score more than 20 points in a game where they racked up 517 total yards and 7.7 yards per play.

Hamilton’s defense is drawing rave reviews for the way it slowed Montreal and Winnipeg. But those are two of the worst offensive teams in the league.

Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly and receivers Adarius Bowman and Derel Walker present more significant matchup problems.

It’s a long trip from Ontario to Alberta, and East coast teams traditionally struggle in evening kickoffs in the west.

Edmonton should finally cash tickets tonight.

Current Standings: Keefer (4-1, $10,560), Bern (0-3, $8,800), Brewer (1-4, $8,700)
