Vegas Play of the Day: Colorado at Baltimore

We’ve entered the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

NFL teams report to camp this week and college football media days are happening around the country, meaning there will soon be more options at the betting window. But in the interim we are stuck with baseball, WNBA and indoor football.

I hate laying such a big price on Baltimore, but there are few options in the dog days of summer. And Baltimore is tough to beat at home with a 37-14 record, meaning laying $185 to win $100 isn’t that bad of an idea.

Baltimore has won nine of starter Chris Tillman’s past 10 outings, including last Thursday when he pitched seven innings of one-run baseball against the New York Yankees. Tillman (14-2) has won his last four starts with a nearly identical stat line — seven innings pitched; one run surrendered.

Baltimore hitters are batting .316 all-time against Colorado starter Chad Bettis, including No. 3 hitter Manny Machado recording two hits in three career at-bats. Bettis enters with a 5.31 earned run average.
