Vegas Play of the Day: Washington of the WNBA at Indiana

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Indiana Fever of WNBA at Washington, Total Over 157: $550 to win $500: The professional basketball betting season ended for some handicappers Sunday with the underdog Cavs covering the point spread at Golden State in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. But for other handicappers — that’s me — it’s still going on. The WNBA, women’s basketball, is about a dozen games into its season, and there’s money to be made in a league celebrating its 20th anniversary.

After all, baseball can be tough to handicap and we need action until football season in late August, right?

So, our first stab at the WNBA season: Four of Washington’s last five games have gone over the points total, with the Mystics scoring 86, 87, 83, 109 (in overtime) and 95 points. That trend should continue today with Indiana surrendering 82.5 points per game. More important: Washington is playing on four days rest; Indiana three. That means they’ll be able to push the ball up and down the court.

Indiana (5-8 overall) is opening a three-game homestand, meaning it’s a perfect time to get back into the Eastern Conference race. While Indiana scores just 78.7 points per game, it should be ready for a top offensive performance to help cover the total over.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (50-43-2, $11,375), Bern (35-42, $6,420), Keefer (53-64-2, $4,991)
