Vegas Play of the Day: Phillies at Diamondbacks

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Arizona Diamondbacks minus-1.5 vs. Philadelphia Phillies at plus-120: $500 to win $600: Arizona has won eight straight games started by ace Zack Greinke, who enters tonight’s matchup against the Phillies with a 10-3 record and 3.61 earned run average. In six of those eight games, the Diamondbacks have won by at least two runs to cover on the run line.

Many handicappers stay away from run line wagers, realizing it is hard enough to pick the winning team in a 162-game schedule, let alone have that team win by two or more runs. But the Phillies (33-45) are a good team to bet against. They are in the middle of a West Coast road trip and have a young and consistent roster.

More important, the Phillies won Monday as a betting underdog. The Diamondbacks won’t lose consecutive games at home to the lowly Phillies, especially with their $200 million pitcher — Greinke — starting the game.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (51-44-2, $11,225), Bern (35-42, $6,420), Keefer (53-64-2, $4,991)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (115-116-1), Keefer (136-147-4), Brewer (119-130-4)
