Vegas Play of the Day: Duquesne at Morehead State

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Duquesne at Morehead State, Total Over 154: $550 to win $500: In Duquesne’s last game, the final was 120-112. In Morehead State’s last game, the final was 84-80. Handicapping is all about trends, and both these teams are scoring at ease and playing little defense.

That’s partially because in lower-tier postseason tournaments such as College Basketball Insider, points are typically scored at a high rate. It resembles games in the NBA D-League, where the pace is back-and-forth and nobody plays defense. I wrote about it last week in this column space when handicapping a National Invitation Tournament game — players don’t want to be in these lower-tier tournament and simply go through the motions.

Duquesne is 49th nationally in points scored at 78.5 points per game. The Dukes rank 302nd in points allowed at at 77.6 points per game, making them one of the worst teams nationally in total defense.

All signs point to the total going over, and going over with plenty of room to spare.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (41-33, $12,070), Keefer (36-48-2, $6,592), Bern (28-35, $6,065)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (107-109-1), Brewer (110-120-2), Keefer (120-130-4)
