Vegas Play of the Day: Oregon vs. Oklahoma

Oklahoma

Mark J. Terrill / AP

Oklahoma guard Isaiah Cousins (11) and guard Jordan Woodard celebrate as Texas A&M guard T.J. Distefano, left, wipes his face during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament, Thursday, March 24, 2016, in Anaheim, Calif.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Oklahoma pick’em vs. Oregon: $440 to win $400

I think I’ve written this somewhere else, perhaps even multiple times, but I can’t get an Oregon game from a couple weeks ago out of my head. The Ducks came into the Pac-12 semifinals against Arizona at the MGM Grand Garden Arena as a 1-point underdog.

They mostly controlled the game but it still went into overtime before they won 95-89. It showed the betting line wasn’t out of whack.

And if Oregon was an underdog to Arizona, what would it have been against Oklahoma? The Sooners would have laid a couple points at the bare minimum.

Has so much changed that the game should now be a pick’em? I don’t think so.

Oklahoma is still the better team. As long as the Sooners aren’t the favorite, the value rests on their side.

It’s hard to back a team that’s struggled so regularly against the spread, as the Sooners are 3-11 versus the number in their last 14 games, but they have some matchup edges here. I’ll take my chances with Oklahoma.
