Vegas Play of the Day: Cardinals at Angels

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Los Angeles Angels minus-115 vs. St. Louis Cardinals: $460 to win $400: This matchup is all about pitching. The Cardinals are starting Mike Leake, who has surrendered four home runs in his last 12 innings pitched and enters with a 6.03 earned run average. Leake has struckout just 22 batters in 34 innings.

The Angels counter with Hector Santiago, who isn’t a world-beater by any means, but is a respectable 2-1 on the season with a 3.55 ERA. The Angels have a 5-1 record in games Santiago has started. Brandon Moss and Matt Carpenter, two of the Cardinals’ top run-producers, each bat left-handed and will struggled against the lefty Santiago.

The 13-19 Angels aren’t as bad as their record indicates, especially with Mike Trout in the middle of the lineup. Eventually, they will start winning games.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (46-37-2, $12,005), Keefer (46-56-2, $6,390), Bern (30-38, $5,975)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (1010-112-1), Keefer (129-138-4), Brewer (115-124-4)
