Vegas Play of the Day: Ball State at Georgia State

We’ve entered the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Georgia State minus-4.5 at Ball State: $660 to win $600: Georgia State should be a double-digit betting favorite.

It returns 17 starters from last season’s team that reached a bowl game for the first time in the program’s four-year history. Ball State went 3-9 last season and struggled to score in averaging just 23.1 points per game in the high-scoring MAC.

While Georgia State returns many playmakers from last season, redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Winchester will be playing in his first college game. And that’s why the betting number isn’t inflated.

The lack of a proven passing game will force Georgia State, which returns experienced tailbacks Kyler Neal, Demarcus Kirk, Glenn Smith, to focus heavy on the run. That’s a good thing — Ball State ranked 115th last season in rushing yards per game surrendered.

Current Standings: Current standings: Keefer (11-6-1, $11,701), Bern (6-7, $10,144), Brewer (7-8, $9,265)
