Chargers Seahawks

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (85) scores a touchdown as Seattle Seahawks defensive back Shaquill Griffin (26) defends during the first half of an NFL football game Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, in Carson, Calif.

We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Los Angeles Chargers minus-3 vs. New Orleans Saints: $550 to win $500

The Chargers didn’t exactly endear themselves to their new fans in Los Angeles last week, as they were embarrassed 48-17 at their new home. While it’s only preseason, the players and coaches have to be wanting a good showing tonight after that pitiful performance.

Meanwhile, the Saints come into town wanting nothing more than to get back to New Orleans healthy.

Sean Payton has shown he doesn’t care about results in the preseason. The Saints have lost nine straight preseason games dating back to 2015, including last week’s 20-14 loss to the Cleveland Browns. There’s no reason for Drew Brees to play more than a few drives.

Add to that the Chargers weren’t as bad as their 31-point loss in week one showed. After the first quarter the Bolts were up 14-10, but four turnovers (two interceptions and two fumbles) down the stretch allowed the game to get out of hand late.

I’ll go with the Chargers yet again, hoping they treat me better than the last time I took them in the preseason.

Current Standings: Granger (5-5, $11,645), Keefer (5-3-1, $10,765), Grimala (2-1, $10,595), Brewer (5-5, $9,140)
