Las Vegas native starts Huffington Post for kids
Published on Tue, Jan 8, 2013 (7 a.m.)BOSTON – With a dollar, a dream and a desire to pay it forward, Las Vegas Native and Boston University law student Brandon Greene announced the launch of a capital campaign for a new website that will bring student voices around the country together in one location. Greene’s Out the Mouth of Babes will be the Huffington Post of student journalism.
Greene hopes to raise $1,000-4,000 in seed money for Babes. Funding will be used to file the necessary paperwork to incorporate and establish a nonprofit, site design and maintenance of Babes’ content management system.
The site’s offerings will be diverse and feature aggregated content and original, multimedia offerings from students around the country.
“Every day, I have conversations about the best ways to educate students and evaluate teachers,” said Greene. “I find myself wondering where the voices of kids are in these conversations. How can we as adults hope to impact students’ lives if we don’t truly know about them?”
Greene plans to cultivate partnerships with professional journalism organizations, media companies, school districts, colleges and universities to connect students with individuals and entities interested in helping students get their stories to the masses.
Greene raised over $1,000 dollars on the first day.
