The circus is in town! That is The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’s (SPI) version where attendees will blow the roof off the 16th floor of the WMC at their "Rockin' RED DRESS Circus" on February 23, 2013. Expected under the "big top" for the revelers amusement are such delights as circus acts, lion habitat, adult carnival games, Fuego Fusion, magic and Sisterly mayhem. Internationally known San Francisco radio talk show host, Sister Roma, "the most photographed nun in the world” will serve as ringmaster for the night's acts and DJ Tatiana will keep the party going with her high-energy spinning.
This 6th annual event helps raise awareness of the HIV epidemic and, of course, funds, for the Sisters AIDS Drug Assistance Program (SADAP) which started in 2007. Jim St Marie, AKA: Sister Sioux St Semen Sloth, keeper of the coffers explains, “SADAP has thus far raised and paid out over $350,000 dollars in the Las Vegas valley for several hundred clients in the form of prescription medication needs and health insurance continuation. Additionally, the Sisters provide complimentary case management services to assist those in need of direction, pharmaceutical program enrollment or simply, consultation.” This all volunteer 501c-3 organizations efficiency is confirmed by the less than 0.05 percent operating costs since their inception in 2005.
Why a red dress? Community solidarity is achieved by ALL attendees of this event wearing a red dress. Last year’s event was attended by over 800 people and this year expectation is for even more, as awareness grows. Sister Glo reminds everyone “You must wear a red dress, absolutely no pants or shorts. Make-up, heels, and all the rest are not required or expected.” Word on the tweet is Sister Glo has the paddle to stop any offenders of the required attire. “The costume contest for Red Dress has many categories and prizes. The competition gets more creative and fierce each year.” states supporter and costume designer, Jim McCoy.
