Dr. David Silverberg Learns New Technique for Hip Replacements
Published on Sun, Jul 28, 2013 (8:15 a.m.)Less invasive hip replacement procedures have increased in popularity over the last several years, according to Dr. David Silverberg of Las Vegas-based Silver State Orthopedics.
Silverberg attended a course on July 26 in Las Vegas to learn an advanced approach for hip replacement.
"The anterior approach allows hip replacement without cutting as much tissue compared to traditional approaches," Silverberg said, adding that patients often recover more rapidly, have less pain and usually go home earlier from the hospital.
The course was sponsored by Zimmer, an orthopedic implant company.
Two leading hip surgeons spoke to the doctors, who practiced on cadavers to fine tune their techniques.
"The training was extremely helpful," Silverberg said. "We will now offer this approach to patients who are good candidates."
