Southwest Gas Employees Donate More Than $1.17 Million to Local Charities
Published on Wed, Nov 13, 2013 (10:53 a.m.)LAS VEGAS — Southwest Gas wrapped up its month-long giving campaign, Fuel For Life, and the total amount committed by employees to local charities exceeded $1.17 million. All of the money donated goes directly to charity partners in each of Southwest Gas’ service areas in Nev., Ariz. and Calif., including ten in Las Vegas. The diversity of the charities involved is featured in the campaign video, which can be found at http://swgasliving.com/resources/videos/fuel-life-2013.
“We stress the importance of being involved in the community, whether that means volunteering on the weekends or participating in our employee giving campaign,” says Southwest Gas Chief Executive Officer Jeff Shaw. “The response is always amazing. Southwest Gas had a 57 percent participation rate for this year’s Fuel For Life campaign, nearly double the national average of 33 percent employee participation. That speaks volumes to each Southwester’s dedication to giving back.”
In addition to the high participation rate, Southwest Gas’ per-employee giving rate for Fuel For Life is $919, well above the $620 rate seen nationally.
Southwest Gas partnered with charities with a wide variety of missions in each of its service areas. In Las Vegas, they included The Shade Tree, NSPCA, Goodie Two Shoes, Nathan Adelson Hospice, Baby’s Bounty, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Candlelighters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada, HELP of Southern Nevada, and Boy Scouts of America’s Scoutreach Program. Employees met with each of the charities during an agency fair and could designate up to five to benefit from their payroll giving donations.
Southwest Gas provides natural gas service to approximately 1.9 million customers in Arizona, California and Nevada. For more information, please visit www.swgas.com.
