Miami Ad School students "Light up" Las Vegas Strip with second hand smoke

Published on Tue, Jul 1, 2014 (9:46 a.m.)

Sin City consumes 146 million mega watts of electricity each year. That’s 3.5 times the amount of electricity Hong Kong consumed in 2013.

Scientists have discovered that electricity can be created by mixing carbon dioxide with fluid electrolyte. And do you know where you can find carbon dioxide? In cigarette smoke.

Light It Up - is an environmental conscious initiative by Miami Ad School students that will provide an innovative energy solution.

How would it work?

By attaching a device to casino ventilators that will do more than just suck up the second hand smoke. It will convert this smoke into electricity.

But lets make one thing clear: The students are not encouraging people to smoke. They just want to make the most out the 956,400 cigarettes smoked everyday in Las Vegas casinos.

Las Vegas second hand smoke could produce an astounding 11,5 million megawatts of electricity annually - that’s enough to power Lebanon for a year.

But since what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, the electricty generated by this second hand smoke will light-up the world famous strip.
