Black History Month Festival

Springs Preserve presents its fourth annual Black History Month Festival featuring arts and crafts, carnival games, face painting, soul food and cultural gift items. There will also be performances by youth step groups and local jazz, gospel and hip-hop entertainers, as well as an art competition featuring students from Andre Agassi Prep and a special appearance by comedian George Wallace.

In addition, Dr. My Haley, widow and writing collaborator of Alex Haley, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "Roots," will autograph copies of her recently-released novel. The Henderson-based author wrote "The Treason of Mary Louvestre," which tells the story of an enslaved seamstress who risks her life while spying on the Confederate navy during the Civil War. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
