More than 200 Nevada business leaders will gather Wednesday at Treasure Island for the 1996 U.S. Senate Productivity Conference and Awards Banquet.

The theme of the eighth annual conference is "Working Together for a Quality Nevada." It will feature workshops on leadership, strategic planning, change management, human resources management, empowerment, team building, small business, continuous improvement and communication.

Workshop leaders include Lt. Col. Bob Ziehm; Susan Knorr and Barry Berman, Marin Credit Cards; Lawrence Brown III and Lyndalou Pisani, Las Vegas Valley Water District; and Barney Wintermute, Citibank.

The luncheon speaker is Arte Nathan, vice president of human resources for Mirage Resorts, who will speak on motivating employees to provide quality service. The theme of his address is "Employee Satisfaction Equals Customer Satisfaction."

The dinner speaker is Dr. A. Blanton Godfrey, chairman and CEO of The Juran Institute, an international quality research, consulting and training firm based in Wilton, Conn. His topic is "Managing Quality for Real Bottom Line Results."

The day kicks off with registration and a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by a general session featuring U.S. Sens. Harry Reid and Richard Bryan, D-Nev.

Concurrent workshops begin at 8:35 a.m. and continue through the morning and afternoon with two breaks and the luncheon. The conference ends at 3:30 p.m. and attendees will reconvene at 6 p.m. for a no-host cocktail hour followed by dinner at 7. Nevada recipients of this year's program awards will be announced at the banquet.

Registration can be completed at the door the day of the event. The cost of full registration is $160, which includes workshops, luncheon and the banquet. Registration for the conference only is $100; registration for the banquet only is $100.

Attendees "will discover strategies to lead your organization to higher levels of productivity and to improved customer satisfaction and business results," Reid and Bryan said in a prepared statement regarding the conference.

The U.S. Senate Productivity Awards for Nevada began in 1988 and is administered for Reid and Bryan by the Quality and Productivity Institute through the U.S. Senate Productivity Awards Planning Committee.
