Doctors evaluate injured cowboy

Doctors today were expected to evaluate the condition of a 15-year-old boy whose skull was fractured after cracking heads with a bull during a Boulder City rodeo.

Adam Turner has been in a drug-induced coma at University Medical Center since Saturday's accident at the Boulder City Open Rodeo. The medication was administered by doctors to help the young cowboy heal, authorities said.

"They say the first 72 hours are the most critical," said Holly McAnlis, a family friend. "But so far we haven't heard anything more."

Turner had been riding bulls for about three years going into Saturday's event, and had been on the back of the 1,500-pound bull for several seconds when his skull hit the bull's head. The impact knocked the Boulder City High School sophomore to the ground, unconscious.

Despite wearing protective head gear, the impact of the collision fractured Turner's skull and facial bones.

Parents Lynn and Larry Turner have been at their son's bedside since the accident. Breanna Turner, Adam's sister and a high school senior, is a four-year member of the school's barrel racing team.

Friends are finalizing arrangements to set up a bank account in Turner's name to help raise money for his medical costs.
