Latin band to play on UNLV campus

In its first tour for Community Concerts, the band plays music from Latin America, especially songs from the Andes Mountains region.

Most of its songs are in Spanish, but it also sings in the Incan empire language, Quechua, and in Yaqui, a common language in the group's hometown of Ciudad.

The musicians wear colorful costumes and play a variety of authentic folk instruments, including the tresillo (Cuban guitar), maracas, wooden claves and the rain stick. The lone woman in the group plays guitar and sings most of the songs.

Choreographed movements add to the variety of the band, which is drawing large followings at festivals throughout the Southwest.

Single membership for the concert may be purchased at the UNLV box office, 895-3801. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for students (through high school). Call 593-1893 for details.
